Earth Fare Rolls Out Fat-fighting ‘Itty Bitty Bites’ Program for Kids

Earth Fare is responding to the childhood obesity epidemic with the introduction of the “Itty Bitty Bites” program. Launched this week at all 17 of the Southeast regional natural foods grocer’s locations, the initiative “is a fun, educational program that inspires kids to make healthy lifestyle choices,” according to Earth Fare. Components of Itty Bitty Bites include trading cards, a comic book series and activity sheets to help children learn about nutrition.

The program will also offer the Itty Bitty Bites Kid’s Healthy Meal, which will enable youngsters to choose from a combination of cold or hot entrees, fresh side dishes, snacks and drinks for $3.99. Included with each meal is a pack of three trading cards featuring a hero, villain or location, as well as a collectible sticker.

Additionally, every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Asheville, N.C.-based food retailer is holding Family Dinner Night, which lets kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal for $5 or more.

“With the introduction of the Itty Bitty Bites program, we will provide easy access to healthy meal alternatives that are fun, affordable and educational,” noted Earth Fare CEO Jack Murphy. “Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the nation. With one in three children classified as either obese or overweight, Earth Fare is dedicated to doing its part to eliminate childhood obesity.”
