Duane Reade Expands Organic, Gluten-free and Green Product Offering

New York-based drug store chain Duane Reade is now offering a lot more green, organic and gluten-free items, with the idea of enabling its customers to live better.

“We believe that ‘every little bit counts,’ as we help New Yorkers make manageable changes to their everyday lives that, taken together, can have a meaningful impact,” explained Duane Reade chief merchandising officer Joe Magnacca.

Some of the dozens of new products in the household, grocery, and personal care categories, which launched in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22, will be sold under one of the company’s two main private brands, Apt. 5 household goods and DR Delish grocery. Many of the items appear in Duane Reade’s second edition of “The Duane Reader,” a 20-page “magalogue” that tells shoppers what’s new on the shelves and highlights the values available to Duane Reade FlexRewards program members.

The earth-friendly household goods lineup now includes Apt. 5 Goes Green 75 percent tree-less paper and facial tissue, which is made from sugar cane; Eco-Spiral Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs; Apt. 5 Goes Green Stainless Steel water bottles; EcoStore laundry liquid and Method laundry detergent; and Dapple Baby-Safe Toy & Surface cleaner. Among the better-for-you groceries now carried in the retailer’s stores are DR Delish Organic Salsa; Happybaby Organic baby foods, in greens puffs and oatmeal varieties; DR Delish gluten-free ginger snaps; DR Delish granola & nut urban trail mix; and DR Delish organic lollipops. In the personal care section, the company has rolled out Organyc feminine hygiene products, which are exclusive to Duane Reade; DR Rich Skin Crème; EcoStore baby shampoo and baby moisturizer; and Prevail glycerin soaps

As well as these products, Duane Reade is also offering a reusable Urban Luggage tote bag for 99 cents.

The largest drug store chain in New York City, Duane Reade operates over 250 stores throughout the area and is part of the Walgreens family of companies.
