Dominick's Reaches Tentative Agreement With Unions
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Safeway's Dominick's division here Friday reached a tentative agreement with UFCW Locals 1546 and 881 on new three-year collective bargaining agreements covering the company's retail clerks, meat, and deli personnel.
The agreement follows nearly three years of rocky talks that included a threatened strike, which was avoided after Safeway agreed to try to sell the chain. It later reversed its decision.
The settlement was negotiated with locals 1546 and 881 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and covers approximately 7,900 unionized employees out of Dominick's total workforce of about 9,000, according to published reports.
The unions will present the settlements to Dominick's employees for ratification in the coming weeks. Details of the settlements are being withheld by both the company and the unions until after ratification of the settlement.
