Dollar Tree Stores To Break Ground For Two New DCs
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Dollar Tree Stores Inc., a large $1.00 discount variety store chain, will hold groundbreaking ceremonies this week for two new distribution centers in Joliet, Ill., and Ridgefield, Wash.
The new Joliet facility, which will house 1.2 million square feet in distribution capacity, is projected to be operational in mid-2004. The site is strategically located on 112 acres southwest of Chicago, near the intersection of six interstate highways and a major transcontinental intermodal rail facility. Once completed, this fully automated distribution center will replace Dollar Tree's existing distribution center in the Chicago area and will service Dollar Tree stores located in the Midwestern U.S.
The new 665,500-square-foot distribution facility to be constructed in Ridgefield, Wash. is projected to be operational by mid-2004. The Ridgefield site consists of 58 acres located near Vancouver, Wash. and the Port of Portland. It will be designed to accommodate both full-automation and can be expanded in the future to meet the company's growth needs in the Northwest.
