Dierbergs Set to Open Second Illinois Store Tomorrow

ST. LOUIS -- Dierbergs Markets here is putting the finishing touches on its second Illinois store, set to open tomorrow morning in the new Edwardsville Crossing Shopping Center, the biggest retail development in the Edwardsville community's history.

"It's a whole new trade area for us," said Greg Dierberg, Dierbergs' e.v.p., in a local press report. "We've had a lot of calls over the years from people in the area who wanted us to put a store there."

The 71,400-square-foot Dierbergs will anchor the $60 million shopping center at Troy Road and Governors' Parkway that comprises 300,000-square-feet of retail space, including 14 free-standing buildings, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Other stores and businesses in the plaza will open in the coming months.

The new Dierbergs store will be the family-owned retailer's 23rd in the St. Louis area, and will include a pharmacy, a florist, and a cooking school. Dierbergs' first Illinois store, in Shiloh, opened in 2003.
