D’Agostinos Helps Feed Homebound Elderly

New York City-based D’Agostino Supermarkets is asking shoppers throughout the month of February to make checkout donations to help feed the city’s homebound elderly as part of the Round-Up for Citymeals-on-Wheels initiative.

The well-known grocer has raised more than $2 million for Citymeals since 1989, when it first became the first Citymeals Round-Up partner.

Customers at all D’Agostino’s locations will be asked to round up their total to the next dollar, or donate an amount of their choice to support Citymeals, a not-for-profit organization that prepares and delivers weekend, holiday and emergency meals to the frail-aged throughout the New York City boroughs.

“We're extremely proud to be a supporter of this initiative, and would like to thank our store associates and customers for making it such a huge success,” said Nick D'Agostino III, president and CEO of D'Agostino Supermarkets. “Giving back to the New York neighborhoods we serve has always been a priority for us – and working with Citymeals on the Round-Up for the past 25 years has allowed D'Agostino Supermarkets to help thousands of needy New Yorkers."

D’Agostino Supermarkets also participates by rounding up the total of customer donations when the program is completed each year.

“Whether you give a few cents, a few dollars or more, all of it goes directly to nourishing our isolated neighbors,” said Beth Shapiro, executive director of Citymeals-on-Wheels. “As our first Round-Up partner, D’Agostino Supermarkets has provided unyielding support for 25 years. I would like to thank Nick D'Agostino III, the D'Agostino staff and their customers for their compassion and generosity.”
