D'Agostino Supermarkets Names New President/C.O.O., Marketing Director

NEW YORK -- D'Agostino Supermarkets, Inc., based here, said yesterday it had promoted Nicholas D'Agostino III to president and c.o.o.

The younger D'Agostino had been v.p., corporate administration. "Transitioning the management of a family-owned business is a challenge, said the chain's chairman and c.e.o., Nicholas D'Agostino Jr., in a statement. "In this instance, Nick has accepted the responsibilities of a c.o.o., and the time has come to recognize his role in the company by designating him president and c.o.o."

Nicholas III came to the company as a store management trainee in 1982. He spent time working in every store department, as well as serving as a co-manager and store manager, before moving to corporate headquarters in 1986. At HQ, he put his interest in computer science to work in the area of corporate systems, in addition to handling design and construction of new stores, and ongoing maintenance and remodeling. In November 2000, he became v.p. of corporate administration, overseeing labor relations, design and construction, purchasing, maintenance, and management information systems.

In other executive changes, the company has appointed Anderson Chung marketing director, a new position. Nicholas III noted in a statement, "Anderson Chung comes to us with experience in corporate marketing departments as well as advertising agencies. He will be working in the area of D'AG Rewards with S&H greenpoints, our online shopping operation and outside communications. We look forward to his insight and expertise as we develop programs to serve our customers."

Chung has worked on such high-profile consumer accounts as Lancome, AT&T, Prudential, Steinway, and Bank of America, as well as overseeing business-to-business marketing for Dow-Corning. Most recently he established his own consulting company.

D'Agostino has 22 supermarkets in the New York City area: 20 stores in New York City and two in Westchester Country. The company has always been family-owned and -operated. Nicholas D'Agostino III and his brother, David, v.p. of store operations, are the third generation of D'Agostinos to own and operate the supermarkets.
