D’Agostino Supermarkets Joins Allegiance Co-op

D’Agostino Supermarkets has become a member of Allegiance Retail Services LLC, a cooperative formed last month by the 68-store Northeastern grocery chain Foodtown to assist independent grocers through such means as marketing, advertising, technological and operational support, in addition to a full line of Foodtown private label products. Larchmont, N.Y.-based D’Agostino operates 15 stores in the New York metro area, most of them in Manhattan.

The grocer’s move “solidifies that the value proposition and expertise we offer was recognized by a highly regarded independent retailer in our core market,” noted Bill Donahoe, president and COO of Iselin, N.J.-based Alliance. Donahoe added that D’Agostino’s transition to Alliance would occur over the next few months.

“We were previously members of the [Foodtown] cooperative organization for many years, and now are very excited about renewing our relationship with the great operators at Allegiance,” said D’Agostino president and CEO Nick D’Agostino III. “We feel it is like going back home.”
