D’Agostino Part of Earth Day Packaging Intro

This Earth Day, April 22, is the perfect occasion for Eco MV to launch its 100 percent wheat stalk-compostable, biodegradeable, gluten-free meat and poultry trays – the first of their kind -- which the Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.-based company is doing in partnership with D’Agostino Supermarkets and Murray’s Chicken.

“I want to make it easy for consumers to make a good choice for themselves and the environment while providing an alternative to Styrofoam trays filling up landfills,” said Eco MV founder Mark Martin.

The first New York-based supermarket operation to move toward eliminating Sytrofoam trays, Larchmont, N.Y.-based D’Agostino approached Murray’s Chicken, a local producer of antibiotic- and hormone-free poultry, to work with it and Eco MV on an in-store and online marketing and education campaign to tell the packaging provider’s environmental story. South Fallsburg, N.Y.-based Murray’s has additionally developed a special label featuring a scannable QR code guiding consumers to a website where they can learn more about the three partners’ sustainable packaging initiative.

“D’Agostino’s is consistently seeking new ways to provide eco-conscious options because our customers are more environmentally aware than ever,” explained the grocers, president and CEO, Nick D’Agostinio III. “There is no better partner for us to begin this new packaging initiative then Murray’s Chicken, and no better choice than Eco MV.”

“We want to take care of our world the same way we sustainably grow our chickens,” added Murray’s Chicken VP sales & marketing Steve Gold. “Biodegradable packaging is one more way to limit our ecological footprint.”
