D’Agostino Names Winner of Second Annual Student-Designed Bag Contest

The winner of the second annual student contest held by D’Agostino Supermarkets to design a recyclable “D'Ag Bag” is Alexandra Szymczak, who attends Pratt Institute in New York. Szymczak’s design, "Leafy Greens," will appear on recyclable D'Ag Bags all over Manhattan and Westchester. First prize also includes a $1,000 scholarship and a $500 D'Agostino gift certificate.

"By honoring our students and our environment, we're giving something back to our community," said Nick D'Agostino III, president and COO of Larchmont, N.Y.-based D'Agostino Supermarkets, Inc. “At D'Agostino you can request paper, plastic or purchase a reusable green bag. With the decision on paper, plastic and reusable more complicated than one may suspect, D'Agostino stands behind thoughtful choices for customers."

Kristi Randall, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, captured second place for her design, "Modern New Yorker," and Samantha Zahabian of the School of Visual Arts came in third.

Over the past two months, students from colleges throughout the New York metropolitan area submitted designs for the new recyclable D'Ag Bag, which the venerable grocer describes as “the most iconic shopping bag in New York.”

The judges who selected the top entries were Nick D'Agostino III; Anderson Chung, director of marketing at the company; Dave Beach, account supervisor, AdLife Marketing; Sean Boyle, director of global planning, J Walter Thompson Advertising; Gary Krakow, senior editor of The Streeet.com; and Shari Hartford, managing editor of Diversion Magazine.
