D'Agostino Gives Produce Director Food Safety Oversight

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- D'Agostino's director of produce John Vasapoli has accepted the additional responsibilities of specialist/manager of food safety for the supermarket chain, based here.

"With the growing focus among consumers, producers and retailers as well as the federal government on food safety issues, John's experience in and understanding of the variety of departments affected by food safety issues will be invaluable in offering substantive information to our customers and suppliers," the grocer said in a statement

Addressing such issues as food handling, cleaning, separating, refrigeration, cooking, storing, and foodborne illnesses, as well as the concerns of expectant mothers and the elderly, Vasapoli will issue periodic updates on food safety, in addition to seasonal tips and disaster preparedness. His updates will appear on D'Agostino's newly revamped Web site, www.dagnyc.com.

As part of his expanded role, Vasapoli will serve as spokesman for the retailer whenever a food safety issue affects the public.
