Cub Foods Gives Customers a Chance to Star in TV Commercials

STILLWATER, Minn. - Cub Foods on Thursday introduced its "I Love My Cub" campaign, providing shoppers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area the chance to appear in a 30-second television commercial for Cub Foods grocery stores. TV personality Mario Lopez, co-host of television's "The Other Half" talk show and host of NBC TV's "America's Most Talented Kid" reality show, will be on hand to serve as celebrity host and emcee for participants in the contest.

"We're encouraging our customers to creatively express their genuine love for our food and our prices in any way they wish. It could be a personal testimonial, short poem or an impromptu monologue about great customer service and why they love Cub Foods," said Gordy Farrington, president, Cub Foods west region. Farrington said contestants should prepare up to a one-minute performance for the Cub Cam screening test.

Contestants will have the chance to meet with celebrity host and emcee Mario Lopez, and judges will be on hand to conduct screen tests and select the final candidates for filming.

The Cub Cam TV commercial auditions and filming will be held April 26 at the Cub Foods store in Brooklyn Park and April 27 at the Cub Foods store in Apple Valley. The first 250 participants at each location will each receive a $5 Cub Foods gift certificate. Up to 40 finalists each will receive a $50 Cub Foods gift certificate and be entered into a grand prize drawing to win free groceries for a year (a $5,200 value).

Cub Foods, one of the first discount food stores in the country, was purchased by Supervalu in 1980. Today there are 44 Cub Foods stores in the Twin Cities and 108 nationwide.
