C&S Wholesale Grocers Promotes Gross as Executive VP

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - Rick Cohen, CEO and chairman of the board of C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc., has announced the promotion of Mark Gross to corporate executive vice president, chief financial officer and general counsel. Gross, who has been senior vice president, CFO and general counsel of the company since 2001, will continue to be responsible for all aspects of financial management and legal affairs within the company.

Gross joined C&S in 1997 as senior vice president and general counsel. In that role, he was a primary member of the C&S team that successfully secured long-term supply agreements with the company?s key customers. He has been the prime architect of C&S?s recent acquisitions, including the $300 million purchase of the Grand Union Company?s assets.

Prior to joining C&S, Gross was an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York, specializing in handling mergers, acquisitions, financings and restructurings.

C&S Wholesale Grocers, a privately owned company with annual sales of more than $9 billion, is the third largest wholesaler and distributor of food and grocery products in the United States. The company distributes to more than 2,000 customers from its warehouses in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
