C&S Sells Two Mass. Depot
KEENE, N.H. -- C&S Wholesale Grocers here has sold two warehouses in Hatfield, Mass. for $56 million to Inland American Real Estate Trust, Inc., in a sale-leaseback deal, according to published reports.
The meat, dairy, and produce facilities encompass a total of 795,000 square feet and employ 1,200 people, according to information on C&S' Web site. The company's other warehouse in the state is a frozen food facility in Westfield.
Oak Brook, Ill.-based Inland American bought four buildings altogether for $150 million, according to SEC documents. The total purchase consisted of the two warehouses and two other buildings owned by subsidiaries of C&S, which will now rent the warehouses it once owned. The sales were completed on Dec. 27.
C&S provides distribution services to grocery chains and independent stores, delivering to almost 5,000 locations from its facilities in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont.
