C&S Helps Stamp Out Rural Child Hunger

C&S Wholesale Grocers along with partner Feeding America is launching the Rural Child Hunger Capacity Building Institute to find solutions for reducing children’s food insecurity in rural areas.

C&S is a Mission Partner of Feeding America and has supported the hunger-relief organization for nearly 15 years by donating food and funds to local food banks and providing disaster relief items. The Rural Child Hunger Capacity Building Institute will launch in Omaha, Neb., from March 16-18.

"This Institute will bring together our members from across the country, who are working on the front lines of this issue," said Ami McReynolds, SVP of network development for Feeding America. "Thanks to our longstanding partner C&S, we can better address this acute problem and will be equipped to reduce rural child hunger in the future."

Feeding America has selected 20 food banks that offer a diverse geographic representation to participate in the initiative to develop a framework and strategy to implement across the organization’s 200 food banks and 60,000 feeding programs.

"There's a lot of emphasis on kids from low-income families in cities, but this will put a spotlight on reaching kids in small towns, in the mountains, in villages, and in tucked-away communities who struggle with access to nutritious food," said Gina Goff, senior director of community involvment at C&S. "Families in rural communities have different needs and issues, and we're proud to help them through this innovative institute.”
