Country Mart Touts Reusable Bags
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Country Mart stores, serviced by Associated Wholesale Grocers here, is helping its shoppers take the lead in the growing trend of eco-friendly grocery bags with the introduction of the "Country sMart" bag, a reusable bag made out of sturdy polypropylene material.
The bag features reinforced handle straps to allow ease of carrying, and can hold up to 50 pounds, said the 19-unit chain, with locations in rural Missouri and Kansas.
The grocer recently broke with a "3 for $5" promotion for the reusable shopping bags. Customers could also earn a free bag with each single purchase of $75 or more.
In Country Mart sent a direct mail piece to the top 50 customers from each store, inviting them to come to their store to pick up a free Country sMart bag. The marketing initiative also included an email blast to customers.
Company officials were pleased with the excellent results generated by the promotion, which generated sales of over 5,000 bags in five days.
