Cooking Light Hosting Cook-off Contest at Kings

PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- In celebration of 20 years since the introduction of what has become the nation's largest food and fitness magazine, 12 recipe contest finalists from across the country are participating in a cook-off for cash at the third annual Cooking Light Ultimate Reader Recipe Contest today, held at Kings Cooking Studio at the Kings Super Market location in Short Hills, N.J.

Inspired by one of the magazine's popular "Reader Recipes" column, the third annual contest plays off the title's 20th Anniversary "Innovation" theme by spotlighting creative dishes in the Starters and Drinks, Side Salads and Side Dishes, Entrees, and Desserts categories.

Cooking Light winnowed thousands of entries down to the 12 finalists who will compete today. Submitted recipes had to be lower in fat and calories than traditional recipes and contain at least one product from the 2007 contest sponsors: Cook's Ham, Kikkoman, Quaker Oatmeal, Kraft 2% Milk Shredded Cheese, Muir Glen Organic Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Benefiber, Kerrygold Cheeses and Butters from Ireland, and Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar. Retail partners include Kings, The Cooking Studio, and Meijer.

One winner from each category will be revealed at a reception and dinner after the contest.

For over 25 years, the Kings Cooking Studio, with locations in Short Hills and Bedminster, N.J., has held everyday tutorials, in addition to classes taught by such culinary stars as Julia Child, Mario Batali, and Emeril Lagasse.
