Converted Martin’s to Get New Gas and Loyalty Programs, Longer Hours

As part of 25 Virginia stores’ conversion to Martin’s Food Markets from the now-defunct Ukrop’s banner, they will now feature a new fuel-saving program awarding customers one point for every dollar spent on food and prescription purchases, Martin’s Bonuscards shoppers can use for product discounts, and extended store hours, according to a published report. Martin’s, a banner of Ahold USA division Giant-Carlisle, informed customers by letter about some of the changes, which will occur over the next six weeks.

Although the new gas program replaces Ukrop’s fuelperks! program, reported the Richmond, Va., Times-Dispatch, when a customer accrues 100 points, he or she will then be able to get a 10-cent per gallon discount at 37 Uppy's Convenience Stores, with whom Ukrop’s also had a partnership with. Additionally, the fuelperks! bonuses that have already been earned can still be redeemed.

All but four of the converted stores will be open from 6 a.m. until midnight, as opposed to Ukrop’s hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. All of Martin’s existing nine stores in Virginia are open 24 hours.

The Martin’s Bonuscards will enable shoppers to receive store discounts and take part in the fuel program. Customers will need to sign up for the cards at the locations or online at
www.martinsfoods.com. The new cards will take effect when the store banners officially change over to Martin’s from Ukrop’s. As previously reported, starting Saturday, four or five locations at a time will close for a week to effect the conversions, which should be completed in mid-May. The new Martin’s stores will be open on Sundays and sell beer and wine, in a radical departure from the long-held policies of the family-owned Ukrop’s chain, which operated in the state for 70 years.
