Consumers Rate Publix, Kroger, Safeway as 'Best of 2006' for Service

FINDLAY, Ohio - Results of a nationwide survey released yesterday showed that Publix leads the pack of supermarket operators in the eyes of customers, when it comes to the level of service it provided in 2006.

The survey's annual results are extrapolated from, a quarterly consumer perception survey conducted by Corporate Research International, based here. Publix earned the highest marks among grocers, and shared top honors with Subway, Olive Garden, Cici's Pizza, Marriott, Southwest Airlines, BP, Nordstrom, Stride Rite, Ace Hardware, Dick's Sporting Goods, Walgreens, Credit Unions, and RadioShack as the best within their respective industries. was launched in 2005 by Corporate Research International, a market research firm specializing in mystery shopping and customer satisfaction surveys. The company sends the quarterly surveys as online opinion polls to its pool of panelists. On average, more than 5,000 panelists participated in each quarter's survey.

Each quarter, respondents rated their perception of each business' customer service on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest possible score. If a respondent did not have experience with the business, the panelist did not enter a score. The scores were then averaged using the results from all four quarters in 2006, to reveal this year's top winners.

Publix earned a score of 7.85 out of 10. Kroger's score was 7.31, and Safeway's 7.11. Albertsons followed the top three with 6.96, with Winn Dixie next with 6.57. SuperValu scored 6.53 for its service, while Aldi earned a rating of 6.21 out of 10, and Sav-A-Lot rated a 6.10 score.
