Colorado Grocery Workers to Vote On ‘Last, Best and Final Offer’

Colorado grocery workers will begin voting Friday on the "last, best, and final" offer proposed by Safeway and King Soopers after six months of negotiations, according to published reports.

UFCW’s Web site said it began mailing ballots to its members Friday, Nov. 27, and it expects the entire process to take about two weeks. The union’s workers are asking for a deal that includes a secure retirement; affordable, accessible health care; and wages that they say will allow them to support their families and the Colorado economy.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the offer is a 52-month contract that includes annual raises totaling $1.30 an hour for the highest-paid workers, signing bonuses of $150 to $1,000 in the form of gift cards paid upon ratification, $40 million in additional payments to what it refers to as an underfunded pension plan, reduced waiting periods to receive medical benefits, and new preventive health care benefits.
