Coca-Cola to Invest $150 Million in China
SHANGHAI - Coca-Cola Co., the world's number one soft drink company, said today it plans to invest $150 million in China over the next five years to open six bottling plants, Reuters reported.
The Atlanta-based company currently operates 28 bottling facilities in China. Two of the new plant locations have been confirmed: one in Changsha and othern in Changchun, a Coca-Cola spokeswoman told Reuters. These plants are scheduled to open next year.
The spokeswoman also said the plants were joint ventures with COFCO, China's leading state-owned trading firm, but she declined to elaborate.
Coca-Cola sees huge potential in China, given its population of 1.3 billion people, a low consumption base and the country's entry to the World Trade Organization, which was approved by members of the world trade body during the last weekend.
