Clinic to Open in Scott's Foods

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- A medical clinic is scheduled to open early next month in Scott's Foods in Stellhorn Village, adjacent to the in-store pharmacy. The Med Spot clinic, staffed by nurse practitioners, will offer a variety of minor medical services, including blood tests and checkups.

Available care will include cholesterol screenings, vaccinations, physicals, pregnancy and drug testing, and treatment for allergies, colds, ear infections, and other minor ailments and injuries. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis and will be given pagers so they can continue shopping if there is a wait. The clinic will be open about nine hours a day during the week, with reduced hours on weekends. Office visits are expected to cost $38.

Nurse practitioners in Indiana can prescribe medication and are not required to practice in conjunction with a physician. The practice must have a physician on contract, however, to review 5 percent of the services it provides. Investors said they hope eventually to place clinics in other Scott's stores in northeastern Indiana.
