Clemens Family Markets Offers NCR Self-checkouts

ATLANTA - Atlanta-based NCR Corporation on Thursday announced that Clemens Family Markets, a 22-store suburban Philadelphia supermarket chain, is offering its shoppers the option to scan, bag and pay for their own purchases using NCR FastLane self-checkout.

C&L Retail Solutions, an NCR retail solutions reseller headquartered in Bensalem, Pa., is responsible for the sale and installation, which includes integration with NCR's ScanMaster point-of-sale (POS) software and an in-lane customer rewards solution from S&H greenpoints.

"Our brand new store in New Coventry, Pa., which opened in August, was the first Clemens Family Market to offer self-checkout," said Clemens Director of Information Technology Larry Finkel. "We have since purchased NCR FastLane for two additional locationss and are planning to roll ou chainwide."

Self-checkout is becoming increasingly popular with shoppers as well as retailers. Stores with self-checkout typically report that the systems are responsible for 25 percent or more of their transactions, according to NCR. In addition, a recent survey conducted for NCR revealed that 78 percent of U.S. consumers said they would be likely or very likely to use the technology.
