C&K Market to Go Trans Fat-Free

BROOKINGS, Ore. -- Regional chain C&K Market said yesterday it plans to switch to trans fat-free frying oil in the delis and bakeries of its 60 stores as of September 8.

Foods prepared in the grocer's Ray's deli and bakery sections will be prepared with Wesson Crystal Smart Choice Cottonseed Canola Oil, a product of ConAgra Foods, Inc., that was developed to bring out the natural flavors of food, while protecting against flavor transfer between products, the chain said.

"We aim to bring the highest quality ingredients to our customers each time they visit our deli and bakery," said Doug Nidiffer, president and c.e.o., C&K Market. "We value our customers' health and listen to their concerns about recent trans fat research, so we're [making] this change in our stores."

Signage informing customers of the change in frying oil will be displayed at the deli department of Ray's, Shop Smart, and Priceless Food locations.

C&K Market is a family-owned company operating 60 stores in Oregon and California under the banners of Ray's Food Place, Shop Smart , Price Less Foods stores, and Pharmacy Express.
