Charley Shop 'n Save Boosts Education

The Charley Family Shop 'n Save stores will host a weeklong fundraiser benefitting local schools in Greensburg, Pa., starting Sunday.

Cash donations collected at store registers throughout the week will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Charley Family. The week will culminate with a School Day community event April 27 at both Charley Family Shop ‘n Save stores in Greensburg.

"The Charley Family has deep roots in Western Pennsylvania. My sons are 4th generation grocers in the greater Greensburg community," said store owner Ray Charley. "This fundraiser will be a lot of fun for kids and is a way of supporting our local schools and communities."

Throughout the week, store registers will be equipped with donation boxes to collect cash donations from shoppers. In addition, local schools will contribute to their school’s fundraising efforts by participating in a coloring contest. The contest will award 25,000 Labels for Education and 3,000 Box Tops for Education to local schools for funding and educational materials. The event will also feature a petting zoo, pony rides and face painters free to the public, with donations requested, plus ice cream sandwiches for 50 cents each, with proceeds benefiting the schools.

There are more than 90 independently owned and operated Shop 'n Save stores in Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio and West Virginia.
