CGA Names New Manager, Northern California Local Government Relations
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Grocers Association has named Timothy James its manager of Northern California local government relations. In this newly created position, James will advocate for association members before local elected and regulatory officials throughout Northern California.
Before joining CGA, James was chief of staff to former Sacramento County supervisor Roger Niello. James also previously served as government relations manager for the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and legislative analyst and grassroots coordinator for the California Trucking Association. His experience at the local level made him right for CGA, according to CGA president Peter Larkin.
James joins CGA local government director Gilbert Canizales, who operates from the organization's satellite Long Beach office, to form the core of CGA's local government relations program. James will work from the Sacramento office. Both James and Canizales will report to v.p. of government relations Paul A.Smith.
CGA is the only grocery association that provides statewide local representation, noted Larkin.
The association represents about 500 retail members operating over 6,000 food stores in California and Nevada, and approximately 200 grocery supplier companies. Retail membership includes chain and independent supermarkets, convenience stores, and mass merchandisers.
