CGA Government Relations Project Manager Appointed

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- John M. Kennedy has been named government relations project manager for the California Grocers Association (CGA), the organization said Friday.

Said CGA president Peter Larkin in a statement, "CGA has a long history of effective state and local government relations. The addition of John continues that strong tradition."

Before coming to CGA, Kennedy served as an Assembly Fellow and was assigned to the Republican Caucus, Office of Policy. In his new role he will deal with such matters as WIC and environmental issues affecting grocers. Further, Kennedy will also provide research and analysis for a range of issue-specific projects.

Noted Larkin, "His skills involving research, analysis and advocacy...will add to CGA's already strong presence in the legislative and regulatory arena."

Kennedy, who will work from the association's Sacramento office, is the newest member of the CGA Local Government Relations team, which also consists of Gilbert Canizales and Timothy James. All team members report to CGA v.p. of government relations Paul A. Smith.

The CGA, a nonprofit, statewide trade association, comprises about 500 retail members operating more than 6,000 food stores in California and Nevada, as well as approximately 200 grocery supplier companies. Retail membership includes chain and independent supermarkets, convenience stores, and mass merchandisers.
