Celebrity Chef to Judge Mushroom Council Consumer Recipe Contest

DUBLIN , Calif. -- The Mushroom Council here is launching a new consumer contest to continue building consumer demand and move mushrooms into shopping carts and onto plates.

The council's current consumer usage contest -- accessible at MakeItWithMushrooms.com and ongoing though Oct. 31 -- will offer two categories that consumers can enter: favorite everyday dish using sauteed mushrooms, and favorite everyday mushroom dish. The winner of the grand prize will receive $5,000, and two additional first prizes of $1000 will be awarded to the top submission in each category.

The contest Web page will also feature tips on how to properly saute mushrooms, along with usage ideas from Bravo TV's "Top Chef," Tom Colicchio, a mushroom aficionado from Craft Restaurant who will also serve as a judge in the consumer recipe competition.

For the contest, each dish must include at least eight ounces of one or more fresh commercially cultivated white button, portabella, baby portabella and/or brown mushrooms.

The contest runs until Oct. 31, and mail entries must be received by Nov. 6. For more information visit www.mushroomcouncil.org.
