Progressive Grocer has extended its submission deadline for its Technology Innovation Awards to Monday, December 10, so you have just about two more weeks to nominate your customers or colleagues for our annual tech awards.

Technology vendors, retailers, and other industry members can nominate food retailers in recognition of an outstanding technology implementation that overcame challenges, was innovative, produced verifiable results and achieved specified business goals during a calendar year.

Implementation must have been or is projected to be completed between January 1, 2012 and November 31, 2012. Winning retailers will be honored during the NRF Convention & Expo, January 13-16, 2013.

Awards will be given in four categories:

  • In-Store Systems: Given to a grocer for a technology-based solution involving technology used to enhance the operations of the brick and mortar store, including both associate- and customer facing systems (POS systems, back office systems, information/ordering kiosks, digital displays, DSD and receiving systems, and hand held devices used by store employees)
  • Enterprise/Marketing: For solutions involving company-wide, often mission-critical systems, including financial reporting systems, ERP systems, workforce management and HR technology, and network infrastructures, as well as technology-based marketing and merchandising solutions.
  • Supply Chain/Logistics: For solutions involving the movement of products and product information throughout the supply chain, including warehouse management systems, inventory management systems, transportation management systems, and related hardware, such as handheld scanners, voice-directed picking systems, etc.
  • Online/Mobile: For solutions related to a retailer's customer-facing online, social media, and mobile initiatives.

DEADLINE: December 10, 2012

Last year's winners included Loblaw's, which executed a supply chain overhaul; Stop & Shop, which developed a shopping buddy smartphone app; and Star Supermarket & Pharmacy, which developed the first grocery/pharmacy POS interface in the industry.

I look forward to learning about more innovations from your submissions!
