Carrefour To Open Eight Hypermarkets In China
PARIS - France's Carrefour SA today said that it will open eight hypermarkets in China this year as it seeks to double its hypermarket presence in the country by 2004, Dow Jones Newswires reports. The retailer currently operates 27 stores in China.
A company spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires that Carrefour opened the first of these stores Monday in Chengdu and plans to continue its expansion plan at the same rate over the next few years.
He said the company was operating in line with Chinese government regulations introduced last year that temporarily blocked growth.
