Carrefour to Deploy Portable Data Terminals at Stores on Three Continents

PARIS, France -- International retailer Carrefour Group plans to implement portable data terminal solutions in stores across 30 countries in Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

Data-collection technology and services provider PSC, Portland, Ore., will install approximately 12,000 PSC Falcon handheld scanning units -- its Falcon 340/345, Falcon 4220 and Falcon 4420 devices in France, Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Belgium, and Taiwan. PSC will provide critical software porting and integration with existing provider equipment to ensure Carrefour's policies and systems will not be compromised.

"Carrefour's continued acquisition of retailers creates complex integration processes that its information system teams must factor in," said Peter Lomax, v.p. of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) for PSC Europe.

Carrefour has a retail presence in 30 countries with 11,000 stores in the hypermarket, supermarket and hard discount formats. A Carrefour Group discount store opens every day, a new Carrefour Champion supermarket every 3 days, and a Carrefour hypermarket every week.
