Cargill Meat Solutions Helps Feed Victims of Hurricane Dennis
WICHITA, Kan. -- Cargill Meat Solutions here said it is donating a truckload of turkey to the Bay Area Food Bank through its More To Share charitable program, in order to help victims of Hurricane Dennis.
The variety of turkey products, which will be distributed to hunger-relief agencies in southwest Alabama and northwest Florida, includes ready-to-heat barbeque turkey and turkey chili, ground turkey breast, thighs, split breasts, drumsticks, and other items. The donation totals more than 1,300 cases of turkey products, weighing more than 21,000 pounds.
"Emergency responders are here with water, ice, and MREs, which is great. But hot meals and a comfortable area to wait while roads are cleared and power is restored in the hardest-hit areas are even more important," said David Reaney, executive director of the Bay Area Food Bank, in a statement.
"It is in these challenging times that people should come together to help those who are suffering and in need," said Lorena Rull, brand manager for Honeysuckle White turkey products. "This food donation is something we can do to directly assist. We encourage other individuals and corporations to do what they can to lend a hand to those recovering from Hurricane Dennis."
Founded in 1981, The Bay Area Food Bank works through 550 member organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to people who are hungry as a result of personal crisis or disaster. The Food Bank is part of America's Second Harvest, the Nation's Food Bank Network, and serves a 21-county area of southwest Alabama, south Mississippi, and northwest Florida.
