Cameo Apple Growers Target Late-season Sales
The Cameo Apple Marketing Association (CAMA) is positioning its brand as a leader of the late-season apple category.
Working with growers and packers to harvest and store the fruit to offer optimal crunch and overall eating quality for the late season, CAMA is advancing the strategy shift with a freshened logo and branding platform to be introduced before the 2010 harvest.
“Cameo’s key point of difference has always been its outstanding crunch and flavor across the entire season” said Kevin Precht, director of marketing for Wenatchee, Wash.-based CAMA. “By officially targeting the majority of Cameo for late in the deal, and building our marketing programs around that, retailers will have a much better opportunity to stock and promote a quality domestic apple offering in May, June, July and even into August.”
CAMA will introduce special late-season promotions to assist retailers looking to take advantage of this increased Cameo volume available in the second and third quarters.
Precht said U.S. Cameo apple sales were up by 38.7 percent from April through May in 2009 vs. the same period in 2008, underscoring the sales opportunity the new Cameo program offers retailers and growers.
