JASPER, Ind. -- Buehler Foods Inc., which owns and operates grocery stores in five states, has delayed filing its bankruptcy reorganization plan.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Market said late last week that it would build a store at the proposed Silver Spring Square II retail center along the Carlisle Pike in south central Pennsylvania, gaining a foothold in a market best known as the home region of Ahold-owned Giant-Carlisle.

KEENE, N.H. -- C&S Wholesale Grocers, based here, said last week that it would convert the 12 upstate New York Tops Markets it bought to the Grand Union banner -- the same trade name the stores operated under when they were bought by Tops five years previously, according to published reports.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Farm Fresh here has a new look. The regional Supervalu-owned retailer is unveiling an updated logo and its newest store simultaneously, on Oct. 29 at a grand opening ceremony in Grafton, Va.

BOISE, Idaho -- Five bidders, including Cinncinati-based Kroger, have emerged as suitors for the Albertsons, Inc. grocery chain. According to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, there have been five preliminary bids for Albertsons in the high $20s per share, or more than $10 billion, as well as bids from Walgreen and CVS for the company's drug store chains. The analysts believe, however, that the synergies from the acquisition of the company by Kroger would be the most attractive.

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- To celebrate the upcoming grand opening of its latest Bashas¿ unit here, family-owned regional supermarket chain Bashas' is holding two free events next week -- a sneak preview of the new store and indoor trick-or-treating.

NEWARK, Del. -- Because of the logistical uncertainties in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the executive committee of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) has voted to move the site of the organization¿s 2007 Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition from New Orleans to Houston for the Oct. 12 to Oct. 15 event.

AMHERST, N.Y. -- Tops Markets, LLC, a unit of Ahold-owned Giant Food, based in Carlisle, Pa., has agreed to sell 12 of its eastern New York state stores to Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc., according to published reports. The purchase will be the biggest for the 31 New York stores that Tops put on the market in July. Terms of the deal were not revealed.
