Brown’s Shoprite Hosts Family Fit Day

Brown’s ShopRite and non-profit partner UpLift Solutions will host a Family Fit Day at its Parkside store at 52nd and Jefferson Aves. in Philadelphia. The family event will feature exercise classes from Planet Fitness, health screenings by Mercy Health System, food sampling by two celebrity chefs, and information from many companies to help the community develop a healthier lifestyle.

The event will also highlight the future concept of ShopRite’s FastCare Health Care clinic that is planned for the summer of 2013. Similar to the health clinic in the Brown’s ShopRite of Cheltenham, Brown’s new clinic will provide convenient and affordable care for both basic and preventive healthcare needs, as well as public assistance offerings, dieticians and wellness educational programs.

As the first of its kind initiative, Brown’s ShopRite developed the clinic in association with UpLift Solutions and Bellin Health, the latter of which envisions expanding the concept into supermarkets throughout the Philadelphia region and a possible alternative within the new national healthcare plan.

Local dignitaries will be guest speakers during the day and also discuss the importance of casting their votes in the upcoming election.

Founded in 1988 by Jeffrey Brown, Brown’s Super Stores is a family owned and operated supermarket chain of 10 Philadelphia area ShopRite supermarkets. Headquartered in Westville, N.J., the company is also well known for its well kept supermarkets that offer a wide variety of fresh food, low prices and friendly service.

Brown’s has been well recognized for its dedication to the communities it serves and was recognized for the past several years as “The Best Employer” in the Philadelphia region by the Philadelphia Business Journal and other publications. The White House has also acknowledged Brown’s for its efforts in serving urban communities who lack affordable, fresh and healthy food.
