Brookshire’s Teams With Kellogg to Renovate Two Youth Sports Fields

Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) and The Kellogg Co. gave two east Texas youth sports facilities $20,000 each in renovations as part of the Frosted Flakes “Earn Your Stripe”s program sponsored by the two companies.

Airport Park Complex in Marshall and Gene Deer Field in Quitman were the two facilities chosen to receive the renovations.

At the park in Marshall, workers tilled the infield, added 100 tons of clay, laser-graded the infield for better drainage, and set new bases and anchors. Workers added 3,400 square feet of Tifway sod, made one herbicide application, and applied three tons of Pro League conditioner.

“Kellogg is a valued supplier that stays involved in the community, much like our company, and we are proud of this partnership to benefit recreation and sports for our young people,” said Ray Jackson, director of the Marshall store.

At Quitman’s field, the project supplied three five-row bleachers, as well as a JUGS Jr. pitching machine and a new safety cap for fencing. Workers painted the faded areas on the field a new blue color.

“Our city is appreciative of being included in this nationwide program, and … glad the children and youth will benefit from the improvements,” noted Shannon Beech, Brookshire’s Quitman store director.
