Brookshire’s Named One of Best Texas Companies to Work For

Regional independent Brookshire Grocery Co. was been named one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas 2010 in a regional awards program designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in the state.

“Our people are great,” said Rick Rayford, president and CEO of the Tyler, Texas-based chain. “Our success as a company is directly attributable to the phenomenal people who work in our stores, manufacturing and distribution facilities, and corporate and regional offices every day.”

The program is a project of Texas Monthly, the Texas Association of Business (TAB), the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management (TSC-SHRM) and Best Companies Group.

Eighty-five companies made the 2010 ranking. BGC has made the list each year since the program was created in 2006. To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

--Have at least 15 employees working in Texas;
--Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity;
--Be a publicly or privately held business;
--Have a facility in the state of Texas; and
--Be in business a minimum of one year.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Companies to Work for in Texas. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices and demographics. This part of the process was worth about 25 percent of the total evaluation.

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth around 75 percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.

BGC will be recognized at the Best Companies to Work for in Texas awards ceremony Jan. 28, 2010, at the Texas Association of Business 2010 Annual Conference. The final rankings will be announced at the luncheon.
