Brookshire's to Deploy Computerized Ordering

TYLER, Texas -- Brookshire Grocery Co. here said it plans to install a computer-assisted ordering (CAO) solution across all its stores. The chain operates 160 stores in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi under the banners of Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, and Olé Foods.

Brookshire's said it selected the SoftGrocer -- Store Online Ordering module (SOLO) application for store replenishment, by Columbus, Ohio-based SofTechnics, to help achieve ordering efficiencies, better manage inventory, reduce out-of-stocks, and improve supply chain efficiency.

"SoftGrocer's SOLO, along with the further addition of perpetual inventory and computer-assisted ordering, will provide the item and price solution we need to control out-of-stock and manage inventories," said Gary Butler, Brookshire's v.p., and c.i.o.

SOLO is an interactive application that allows the in-store order writer to create the product order, presenting the user with the information in the SoftGrocer database such as average item movement history, the last time the item was ordered, and whether the item is currently on or going on promotion. This information helps the order writer create a more accurate order. The module also includes the ability to count the inventory in the backroom area as well as capture out-of-stocks.

In addition to SOLO, Brookshire's said it is also implementing SoftGrocer's DSD application.
