Brookshire Grocery Co. to Expand DVD Kiosks Chainwide

Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) plans to install NCR’s Blockbuster Express-branded DVD rental kiosks chainwide, and expects to have a unit in each store by the end of the first quarter.

The kiosks offer consumers a selection of new release and classic DVDs, and can hold up to 900 DVDs each. No membership is required to rent a DVD; customers simply swipe their credit card and are charged $1 per night until they return the DVD. Duluth, Ga.-based NCR operates ABOUT 4,000 DVD rental kiosks in the United States and Canada, and anticipates operating up to 10,000 kiosks by the end of 2010.

“For more than 80 years, Brookshire Grocery has strived to give our customers a great shopping experience,” said BGC spokesman Don Gaynier. “Through our new relationship with NCR, we are able to give our customers the convenience and savings associated with Blockbuster Express DVD rentals.”

NCR began deploying DVDs kiosks in BGC in 2009, with about 100 kiosks installed at the chain at the end of the year.

Tyler, Texas-based BGC operates 156 stores in the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
