Brookshire EVP Skelton to Retire

Johnny Skelton, EVP and chief retail operations officer for Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. will retire April 7 after 43 years of service to the company.

Skelton joined Brookshire as a meat cutter in 1966 after serving in the army. He worked his way up in retail market departments and was promoted to VP in 1990, SVP in 1998 and EVP in 2004. He has served in his current position for the past five years.

“Brookshire Grocery Co. had just over 20 stores when Johnny Skelton came on board in 1966, and he has helped to shape our store operations into one of the most successful in the industry,” said Rick Rayford, president and CEO. “He has been a vital part of the company’s leadership for many years, and we’re grateful for his service.”

Fellow company leaders praised Skelton’s long-term service to the company in a tribute video in his honor. They attributed his business success to his constant encouragement and motivation, caring attitude, and appreciative management style. Employees noted that Skelton always thanked everyone for the job that they did, no matter how large or small the contribution. Skelton worked for company founder W.T. Brookshire and always strived to continue the traditions Brookshire set for the company when it was founded in 1928, according to the company.
