Brookshire Brothers Names Acting Chairman New C.E.O.

LUFKIN, Texas -- Regional independently-owned chain Brookshire Brothers, Ltd. here has restructured its leadership, naming Jerry Johnson, former chief administrative officer, as president and c.e.o. The company has been operating under an executive committee since former c.e.o. Tim Hale left three years ago.

Jack Gabriel, e.v.p. of retail operations, will assume the responsibility of c.o.o. Milton Hixson was named the new chairman of the board of directors.

Johnson, who formerly served as one of Brookshire Brothers' outside attorneys, joined the company's board of directors in 1997. He became e.v.p., general counsel, and chief administrative officer in the fall of 1998, and has been acting chairman of the board since 2003.

Gabriel joined Brookshire Brothers in 1994 and was promoted to v.p. of marketing in 1998. He became a member of the board of directors in 2003.

C.f.o. Donny Johnson, who joined Brookshire Brothers in August 1994 as assistant chief financial officer, will continue to oversee financial matters for the company.

All three men will continue to serve on the company's board.

Brookshire Brothers operates more than 70 stores throughout Texas and Louisiana.
