Blue Dots = In Stock

Once again Google has found a way to make life easier for consumers while at the same time creating new local marketing opportunities for grocers.

This month, the search giant enhanced its mobile local product search by adding an “inventory check” function, which lets users see in their search results whether items are in stock at nearby stores. A blue dot indicates that an item is available, and tapping the adjacent “In stock nearby” link pulls up the seller’s page where the item is labeled “In Stock” or “Limited Availability.”

Already Best Buy, Sears, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and West Elm are participating in the program.
