Blue Bunny Celebrates as Bomb Pop Turns 50
LE MARS, Iowa -- To celebrate the 50th anniversary of an American icon -- the Bomb Pop -- Blue Bunny here is launching a summertime sweepstakes called "Red, White and Win."
Instructions for the sweepstakes will be included on each Bomb Pop stick. Game sticks either reveal an instant winner or direct the purchaser to check the code printed on the stick at www.BombPop.com for more great prizes.
Two lucky winners will each receive a Grand Prize trip for four to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. Coincidentally, Disneyland is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
In addition, 50 instant second-prize winners will each receive a Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Other winners could receive Bomb Pop collectible lunchboxes, wristwatches, or flashlights.
The 50th anniversary celebration also introduces the first official Bomb Pop Day, to be recognized on the final Thursday in June. This year the celebration lands on June 30.
The original six-finned red, white, and blue Bomb Pop was invented in 1955 on Independence Avenue in Kansas City, Mo. by James S. Merritt and D.S. "Doc" Abernethy. The Bomb Pop has gone down in American history as one of the most popular frozen confections ever created, according to Blue Bunny.
