BJ's Wholesale Club Rolls Out Glittering E-commerce Site

NATICK, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club here has introduced its first online shopping site with a memorable item for discriminating holiday shoppers: a 41-carat diamond necklace priced at a mere $249,999.99.

In response to member demand, other general merchandise available on the site includes brand-name MP3 players, high-definition plasma TVs, blenders, and items not found in BJ's Clubs, the chain said. The company further promised "entirely new categories, products, and big surprises coming online all the time."

Said BJ's chairman and c.e.o. Herb Zarkin, "Through the launch of BJs.com, consumers across the country can now take advantage of the exceptional BJ's prices and values previously only available to BJ's members located on the East Coast."

While all BJ's Wholesale Club members can shop at BJs.com, for a limited time only, nonmembers can shop there, too, without having to pay a surcharge and with access to the site's offerings and membership prices.

"Holiday shoppers who log on to check out that exquisite diamond necklace are in for a pleasant surprise," noted assistant v.p. of e-commerce Jennifer Avey. "Our online store offers an excellent selection of amazingly priced jewelry and other holiday gift items for shoppers on virtually any budget."

According to Avey, the diamond necklace is just the first of many surprises in store for BJ's online shoppers. "Visit us regularly because we plan to have more unique and exciting items in the future."

BJ's currently operates 169 Clubs and 94 gas stations in 16 states.
