Big Y Gives Birth to Baby Y

To help young families in its market area, Big Y Foods has launched Baby Y baby club. The free club offers such incentives as earning Big Y Express Savings Club gold coins for purchases on everyday items, free prescription prenatal vitamins, discounts on birthday cakes, exclusive coupons, and parenting tips. Customers can sign up online or at any Big Y store.

Club members will earn a Big Y Express Savings Club gold coin every time they buy $50 worth of more than 1,000 baby products marked with purple tags bearing the Baby Y logo. Program partners include Seventh Generation, Kimberly-Clark (maker of Huggies), Beech-Nut, Mead Johnson (maker of Enfamil), Sprout, Procter & Gamble, Plum, Gerber, and Burt’s Bees (maker of Baby Bee).

Additionally, club enrollees can get a free 30-day supply of select prescription generic prenatal vitamins at any Big Y Pharmacy and Wellness Center, and mark their baby’s first birthday with $10 off any sheet cake, plus a free smash cake for the guest of honor to destroy.

“At Big Y, we understand what is important to growing families,” said John Schnepp, director of advertising at the Springfield, Mass.-based grocer, which operates 66 stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts and employs more than 10,000 associates. “That’s why we are introducing Baby Y, our free new baby club where our customers can start expecting all kinds of wonderful things including great coupon offers and parenting tips, to Big Y gold coins and discounts.”

Baby Y is teaming with Big Y’s “Living Well Eating Smart” program to offer health and nutrition tips for parents and infants on the Baby Y website. Customers also have access to a Baby Y microsite that features guest blogger posts, links, and more coupons.

Family-owned and –operated Big Y is one of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England.
