Big Y Among the U.S. Grocers Adopting Anti-microbial Technology

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Big Y here is one of the five U.S. retailers that have adopted the anti-microbial technology offered by PuriCore via its Sterilox Food Safety System. The supermarket chains have begun to roll out the system in recent months.

"A major difference with regard to the on-shelf appearance and shelf life of our product, plus enhanced food safety, makes this a home run," said Big Y director of produce Brian Gannon in a statement. "By using the Sterilox Food Safety System throughout our network, we enhance our food safety program and ensure that we are offering the freshest produce available to our customers."

So far, over 20 U.S. supermarket chains employ the Sterilox Food Safety System to guard against cross-contamination of infectious pathogens and enhance the freshness of produce, said PuriCore, which has headquarters in Malvern, Pa. and Stafford, England.
