Bi-Lo to Open Super Bi-Lo in N.C.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Regional grocer Bi-Lo/Bruno's has confirmed it plans to roll out its Super Bi-Lo format to a third state - North Carolina -- next year. The retailer first introduced the concept last year in its home state, and recently said it will open a Super Bi-Lo in the Chattanooga, Tenn. market in 2007.

The 57,000-square-foot unit in North Carolina will be located in a shopping center in Matthews, a suburb of Charlotte. Ground will be broken in the fourth quarter of this year, Bi-Lo/Bruno's spokeswoman Joyce Smart told Progressive Grocer.

Super Bi-Lo stores feature a larger grocery selection, a greater variety of organic and natural foods, an enhanced wine selection, and other services. The Matthews unit will also include a coffee shop serving the store brand, a DVD section and kiosk with games and music, a Hewlett Packard digital photo center, a home office supply section, and a Wellspot Health and Wellness Center staffed by nurse practitioners.
