Bi-Lo Names Two SVPs

Bi-Lo, LLC has named Bill Nasshan SVP of merchandising and marketing, and has promoted Anthea Jones to SVP of store operations.

Nasshan succeeds Larry Stablein, who was interim SVP of merchandising and marketing from November 2008. Nasshan will work with Stablein, who will advise the regional grocer as a consultant for the near future.

Nasshan’s most recent position was SVP of marketing and merchandising at West Bridgewater, Mass.-based Shaw’s Supermarkets, a division of Supervalu. Before joining Shaw’s, he was SVP of merchandising at Borders Books Music and Video and a category management consultant for The Partnering Group. Nasshan additionally spent 20 years at Chicago-based Dominick’s, holding such positions as group VP of sales and marketing; VP of grocery buying, merchandising and logistics; and VP of operations.

With over 25 years’ experience in the grocery industry, Jones has been VP, non-foods and pharmacy; regional VP; and director of customer Service at Bi-Lo. He began his grocery retail career at Food Lion as a courtesy clerk, rising through the ranks and eventually attaining the position of director of store operations. In his newest role, Jones will take over operations and Bi-Lo Charities, Inc.

“With a combined total of more than 50 years of experience in the supermarket industry, these two gentlemen bring a depth of knowledge that will help Bi-Lo continue to move forward,” said company president and CEO Michael Byars. “As we evolve as an organization, working to better connect operations and merchandising, their knowledge of both areas makes them well suited for these positions.”

Bi-Lo, based in Mauldin, S.C., operates 214 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, and employs about 15,500 people.
