Bi-Lo Collaborates with Consultancies to Improve Value Proposition

MAULDIN, S.C. -- Bi-Lo, LLC here said yesterday that it has entered into an agreement with consulting firms Karabus Management and Willard Bishop to design a new value proposition for the retailer. The move represents the next phase of Bi-Lo's strategic plan, which kicked off two years ago.

Joyce Smart, the retailer's director, corporate communications, told Progressive Grocer, "The work with Karabus and Willard Bishop will begin immediately, and first results are expected within 14 to 16 weeks."

"Over the past two years we have reshaped and repositioned our company," explained new Bi-Lo president and c.e.o. Brian Hotarek in a statement. "We invested in information system technology, revamped our back office, and outsourced distribution. Last year we announced major capital investment plans in several of our core markets. The next phase of our plan is to grow our business by focusing on our value proposition."

The collaboration with Karabus and Willard Bishop is expected to improve processes and lower costs, bolster the stores' promotional offerings, boost the return on store assets, and build a sustainable competitive advantage, among other outcomes.

"We are committed to improving the value we provide to our shoppers so that we remain their supermarket of choice," noted Hotarek. "In short, we want to win the hearts and minds of our customers."

Bi-Lo operates more than 300 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida and employs about 23,500 people.
