Better-for-you SpaghettiOs
As part of an initiative to enhance the nutritional content of its various product lines, Campbell Soup Co. has rolled out SpaghettiOs canned pastas made from recipes that meet the FDA and USDA criteria for healthy entrées. This means that they’re controlled for fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium and contain a significant level of at least two positive nutrients, and that they also provide a full serving of vegetables (a half-cup) in every serving. Over the past two years, Camden, N.J.-based Campbell has lowered sodium across the SpaghettiOs line by as much as 39 percent. Additionally, each serving of the canned pasta provides at least five essential nutrients such as vitamin A, calcium or fiber, while all of the plain (non-meat) varieties contain a full serving of grains. The SRP range for a can featuring icons on the label to communicate the nutritional benefits to shoppers is $1.05 to $1.40, depending on the variety.
